The baby blues, or something more? Let's talk about it!
Depression, anxiety, and other mood disorders do not just occur during the postpartum period but can be present prior to pregnancy, start during pregnancy or after delivery. That’s why we no longer refer to it as postpartum depression. Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders can happen anytime during pregnancy and up to 1 year postpartum. They often go unrecognized or we suffer in silence, ashamed of our thoughts and our feelings. Did you know 1 in 5 to 7 moms and 1 in 10 dads experience depression during the postpartum period? Feeling like this can be very normal and it’s time we decrease the stigma and talk about what we go through as new parents. You are not alone. You are not to blame. There is help. |
